Description

(QR) Quantitative Reasoning

This course is an introduction to computation as a problem-solving tool in mathematics. Students will learn MATLAB - a powerful and widely used technical computing environment - to formulate, solve, and visualize quantitative problems. Students will develop technical skills by engaging with the fundamental programming concepts of variables, conditionals, loops, functions, testing, and debugging. Various mathematical models including discrete, continuous, and stochastic models will be explored and computer simulations performed to study problems in diverse disciplines such as mathematics, chemistry, biology, economics, social science, and computer science. The culmination of the course is a final project in which students develop an original piece of software.
