Description

(DM) Diversity and Multiculturalism (LI) Literary Inquiry

This course will introduce you to the art and the disciplines of poetry writing. We will study modern and contemporary poetry collections from explorations of the impact of national disasters and mass incarceration, to troubled family life and war. You will also be introduced to structural elements and poetic forms through the study of poetry collections that specifically address issues of social justice and diversity and multiculturalism. The poetry collections we study, in combination with film documentaries address issues of race, poverty, and class in a global context. You will have the opportunity to draft a manuscript and these final portfolios will engage a social phenomena or problem, or explore your unique personal experiences and family life as well as those of people who identify in different ways.
